A man thought to be in his 40s has been critically injured in a workplace incident in Perth's north-east.

Multiple ambulances were sent to the scene on Alice Street in Bassendean this afternoon.

A St John WA spokesperson said paramedics remain on site, and no one had been transported to hospital.

The spokesperson said St John had attended after receiving reports he had been critically injured.

A spokesperson for WorkSafe said the agency was aware of the incident and investigators are at the scene.

Worker death at site in 2019

Hofmann Engineering was last year fined more than $500,000 over the 2019 death of a worker at the same Bassendean workshop.

The man was crushed when the 1350 kilogram piece of welding machinery he was working under fell suddenly.
