Numerous Great North Run participants have been left baffled after discovering a glaring error on their medals. Sunday's event witnessed 60,000 runners tackle the 13.1-mile route from Newcastle to South Shields, with each participant receiving a medal.

One side of each medal displays a map labelled with Newcastle, Gateshead and South Shields. Nevertheless, many competitors are incensed after realising that the map actually depicts Sunderland with the River Wear flowing through it.
