A terrorist shooting in the northern Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramot on Monday morning left six people dead and a dozen others injured. Israeli President Isaac Herzog described the incident as a "painful and difficult morning," stating that innocent civilians, including women, men, and children, were brutally murdered and wounded in cold blood on a bus.
The Magen David Adom emergency medical response group reported that five of the deceased victims were identified as a man and a woman in their 50s, along with three men in their 30s. The sixth victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead later in the afternoon after medical personnel were unable to save them. Paramedics transported seven individuals with serious injuries to hospitals in Jerusalem, while two others were moderately injured and three sustained light wounds.
Two terrorists were neutralized at the scene by an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier and an armed civilian. Reports indicate that the soldier was a squad commander in the IDF’s ultra-Orthodox Hasmonean Brigade. The Hamas terrorist organization praised the attack, referring to it as a "heroic and unique operation" and calling for Palestinians to escalate confrontations against what they termed the occupation.
Nadav Taib, a paramedic with Magen David Adom, described the chaotic scene. He stated, "We saw people lying on the road, unconscious, on the side of the road and the sidewalk near a bus stop. There was widespread destruction at the scene, shattered glass on the ground and commotion." Magen David Adom continued to provide medical treatment and evacuate the wounded to hospitals.
Israel Police spokesman Aryeh Doron confirmed that the situation was still unfolding about 30 minutes after the initial report. Security forces were investigating a suspicious object at the scene. The IDF subsequently ordered the closure of security checkpoints between Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria while conducting a situational assessment.
Following the attack, IDF soldiers were dispatched to the area to search for suspects in collaboration with the Israel Police. Israeli forces were reported to be encircling several villages on the outskirts of Ramallah to prevent further terrorism, conducting searches and questioning in the area, and reinforcing defensive measures along the security barrier.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a situational assessment with defense officials in response to the attack. According to Channel 12 News, security agencies believe the attackers arrived by car from a village in the Ramallah area and used locally produced submachine guns. The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) reported that it thwarted over a thousand major Palestinian terrorist attacks in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria in 2024, with the majority involving firearms and explosive devices.
