JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — Highlands Horrorfest, a showcase of short films from local and regional filmmakers, will take place at the Jackson Theatre in Jonesborough on Oct. 11.

The main festival, hosted by local entertainer and emcee, Big Daddy Voodoo, will include film screenings, a costume contest and an awards presentation at the end, and the top winner will receive a grand prize of $1,000.

“Some of the most successful independent films of all time are horror films and, through promoting these filmmakers, we seek to provide a platform to showcase and help introduce emerging artists from our region," Jake VanHuss, event organizer and assistant professor at ETSU, said in a news release.

Doors for the showcase will open at 6 p.m. with the show starting at 7 p.m.
