A man acting as a peacemaker was brutally attacked then kicked as he lay prone on the ground outside Manchester Piccadilly railway station.

British Transport Police has launched an investigation, with two CCTV images now being released.

The images are of two men police want to speak with in connection with the assault last month.

It happened on Saturday, August 30. The victim intervened in a dispute between two men but was punched and kicked for his trouble, according to Greater Manchester Police .

He was attacked again as he tried to get away, a force spokesperson added.

Limited details have been revealed and the extent of his injuries haven't been confirmed.
