MADISON, Wis. — An older stove lacking pilot safety features prompted a response by the Madison Fire Department and Madison Gas and Electric on the city’s near west side Saturday afternoon.
A fire crew was dispatched shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday to the 3200 block of Stevens Street for a reported natural gas leak from a stove.
An occupant met firefighters outside and said MGE had been there that morning for the same issue. The utility previously found the stove’s pilot lights turned off and relit them; no other gas leaks were found at that time.
Firefighters used an air monitor to confirm the presence of natural gas in the home, which was also indicated by a slight odor. The utility returned to the residence, according to MFD.
