COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSAV) — An unvaccinated Upstate resident is the third confirmed case of measles in South Carolina since July 2025.
The resident had recently traveled to a country with a measles outbreak and did not have immunity from a previous infection. They were not contagious while traveling, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH).
DPH said the resident is isolating at home to prevent the spread.
A measles infection can lead to hospitalization and, in worst cases, cause death. However, getting vaccinated can prevent the disease and its spread. The vaccine has over 97% effectiveness, according to DPH.
