An NYPD officer is recovering and a man is dead after a confrontation inside a Brooklyn precinct early Sunday, police officials said.

The incident began just before 5:30 a.m. at the 73rd Precinct in Brownsville, according to the NYPD. Authorities said the man, who has not been publicly identified, first entered the front vestibule of the precinct and tried to open a locked door before leaving.
