BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - The first pumpkins of the season have arrived at Papa’s Pumpkin Patch.

Well, it’s technically just one pumpkin, but it’s a pretty big one.

The size of this pumpkin and the story behind it make this pumpkin anything but ordinary.

This is Bob the pumpkin.

“It’s just a cool name,” said nine-year-old Brynlee Hardy.

She, her seven-year-old sister, Addison, and their dad, Tyler, have been tending to Bob for months.

“We planted April 30,” recalled Tyler.

Tyler started growing Bob in a greenhouse, then transferred him to the garden.

“I’ve got a 4,500 square foot garden,” he said.

There Bob grew and grew and grew some more.

“I like how big they grow,” said Brynlee.
