GAFFNEY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Cherokee County School District announced that one of its middle schools received a literacy grant on Aug. 29.

Officials said that Gaffney Middle School received a $4,720 Dollar General Youth Literacy Grant to support the school’s ongoing Read 180 program. The Dollar General Youth Literacy Grant is a part of Dollar General Literacy Foundation and is dedicated to supporting members throughout its communities by growing literacy efforts.

The district said that the Read 180 program offers literacy interventions and supports students through a variety of methods. The program uses direct instruction coupled with whole group and small group learning activities, adaptive software and independent reading features that support the skills students need to grow as
