LONDON, Ky. — The mayor of London, Kentucky, is out of a job.
Following weeks of controversy, London city council members voted to remove Randall Weddle from office after a seven-hour hearing.
Weddle faced a list of misconduct charges, including failing to appoint a housing authority board for over a year, making illegal appointments without council approval and misusing police resources for personal protection.
The council also accused Weddle of refusing to call meetings, mishandling city ordinances, filing improper ethics complaints and signing a $5 million mortgage without approval.
Weddle’s attorney pushed back during the hearing, calling it an abuse of power and a violation of due process, but council members voted unanimously to remove him from office.
