BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — According to Feeding America , over 210,000 children in Kentucky face food insecurity.
Kentucky ranks 45th for children suffering from food insecurity, according to a 2024 report from American’s Health Rankings .
Dalla Emerson, the Director of Food Service Operations for Bowling Green Independent School District, is hoping to reduce that statistic.
Emerson said, “Feeding our babies is our mission.”
To help provide meals, the district recently received nearly $130,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.
That money will go toward elementary schools within the district and expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children can consume at school.
Emerson said, “The goal is not to make them love everything. The goa
