EAST LANSING – Michigan State took a 21-0 lead into halftime of the season opener against Western Michigan and its lone score over the final 30 minutes was a safety.
A week later, the Spartans were down seven at the half before rallying for a 42-40 victory in double overtime against Boston College .
“I feel like it could be a growth game for us to be able to finish the game we did against a quality opponent,” second-year coach Jonathan Smith said on Monday while citing a few of the challenges last week. “We’re trying to grow off of being able to finish that way because a lot of these games are going to come down to the wire like that and we’ve got to gain some confidence and continue to move forward from the game.”
