CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The West Virginia Legislature majority leaders and Governor Patrick Morrisey today discussing the implementation of a new state law.

It requires all public elementary and secondary schools and state institutions of higher education to display a sign with the U.S. motto, “In God We Trust.”

The governor and several members of the legislature held that discussion today outside the Senate chamber at the State Capitol.

The law says the motto must be displayed by the fall of this year, and it must be a durable poster or framed copy placed in an easy to see area.

“In God We Trust” has been the U.S. national motto since 1956.
