The Mets have shut down right-handed pitcher Tylor Megill from throwing after he experienced tightness throwing his secondary pitches in a rehab start, per manager Carlos Mendoza’s update to the media before the team’s series opener in Philadelphia this evening. Megill is traveling to New York for an MRI.
Megill hasn’t pitched in a major league game since June 14, and he had been rehabbing in the Mets’ minor league system for the past several weeks. Having made two appearances for the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Megill moved up to the Triple-A Syracuse Mets for an outing on August 22. Over the course of four starts for Syracuse, he threw just 15.0 innings with a 6.60 ERA, 16 strikeouts, and 9 walks.
The Mets are currently rocking a six-man rotation, as they’ve called up Nolan McLe
