Deanna Garton introduced the Ottawa Region Métis Council, members of the Métis community, and the public to an afternoon of Métis knowledge and tradition at Wall Street United Church on Saturday afternoon.

Featured was traditional, well-loved fiddle music and Métis dance. Prayers and land acknowledgements were offered before Garton presented Métis sisters Sarina and Taliah Lyons, who were born in Cranberry Portage, a small Métis community in northern Manitoba.

The young high school students demonstrated Métis jigging, which they both teach and perform. The sisters have been dancing for over 10 years, turning their focus to Métis jigging four years ago.
