NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Calls for change have been answered in Germantown.

The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure has approved changes to protect pedestrians at a busy intersection after two people were hit while crossing the road.

One of them—a 77-year-old woman—was killed.

NDOT had already made small changes to make 3rd Avenue North safer, but earlier on Monday, Sept. 8, the Metro Traffic & Parking Commission approved a larger change.

NDOT will be installing pedestrian hybrid beacons at the crosswalk near 3rd Avenue and Van Buren Street.

PHBs are used to warn and control traffic. The beacon itself has three lit signals: two red on top and one yellow on bottom. They will flash when a pedestrian hits the button, alerting drivers to stop and allow th
