Millions of households across the UK may be at risk of losing a key television service, as MPs warn of a possible blackout. Around 16 million people currently rely on Freeview, which is considered as a lifeline for those unable to afford subscription-based platforms. ‌

But its future is now uncertain, with the Government yet to confirm whether it will safeguard the service beyond 2034, when the digital terrestrial TV (DTT) licence is due to be renewed. Concerns have been raised that ministers could either axe Freeview entirely or restrict it to internet access only, removing its availability through standard TV aerials. ‌
