It’s a crisp late-summer day, with back-to-school in the air, and the quote on the flank of a certain downtown building comes compliments of Stephen King.

If you haven’t guessed, we are standing outside Bay Used Books, which is magical in its own right, but also a fixture. The shop, in one form or another, has now been part of the Sudbury retail and reading scene for half a century.
This golden milestone was technically reached earlier this summer but a formal celebration is being held this Saturday. In the interim the shop has been doing a fairly brisk trade in a line of new tote bags, buttons and postcards that render its name in a quaint font against a starry backdrop, along with the phrase “Est. Sudbury 1975.”
