A man known as Diamond Dave in Parry Sound died in a Sudbury hospital days after being Tasered by OPP officers during a drug-induced crisis in this community 160 km south of Sudbury.

An inquest that opened in Sudbury on Monday is looking at how David Gourley, 58, died and whether police could have responded better to the situation on July 12, 2018.

West Parry Sound OPP constable Adam Hemming said when he got a call about an incoherent, middle-aged man going in and out of traffic on the busy Bowes Street in Parry Sound about 7:50 p.m., he immediately knew who the man was.
