GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Monday marked the third anniversary of the 988 suicide and crisis hotline, and to commemorate the occasion, Greenville’s Real Crisis Center held an event at its location.
988 has gone through some changes over the past few months, after the Trump administration removed its service tailored to LGBTQIA+ youth in July.
But, Kelly Crosbie, the North Carolina Director of the Division of Mental Health, says the staff is still prepared for calls from members in that community despite option three’s removal from 988.
NC 988 told WITN they received 11,500 calls, chats, and texts this past month.
Speakers at the Real Crisis Center event emphasized the importance of 988 and shared stories demonstrating the help it provides to all communities of people.
