ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ)--The Altoona City Council approved a new ordinance on Tuesday night, aiming to simplify the process for contractors to work within the city.
The ordinance, passed with a 6 to 1 vote, modifies the city code to facilitate licensing and bidding for general contractors. The council anticipates that these changes will boost competition in the construction sector, potentially lowering costs for home projects by up to 30%.
"This was negotiated between the electricians, plumbers and the city's staff. We're just happy that we were able to come to an amicable agreement," Councilman Dave Butterbaugh said, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the ordinance.
