CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Charlotte, state, and U.S. leaders have all responded to the death of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska , who was fatally stabbed on the Charlotte light rail in late August.

On Sunday, President Trump reacted by calling the situation “horrible”. U.S. Attorney for North Carolina’s Western District, Russ Ferguson, confirmed that his office is “looking into” possible federal involvement .

With this crime making national headlines, WBTV spoke with people in Charlotte about their expectations for safety from local and state leaders moving forward.
