SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The City of Schenectady is facing a 2026 budget deficit in the millions and at Monday night’s city council meeting leaders voted for a public hearing on the budget next month.

“I know it’s going to be a very challenging budget. I don’t anticipate it being as challenging as it was two years ago,” said Schenectady City Council President Marion Porterfield.

The city council unanimously voted to schedule the public hearing on October 14th to discuss the city’s proposed 2026 budget. “As the mayor has indicated, there’s a $6 million deficit, so it’s going to be very challenging to be able to cover that without cutting services,” explained Porterfield.
