A woman has been charged by police following an alleged domestic violence related stabbing, which resulted in the hospitalisation of a man after a verbal altercation unfolded in Sydney’s west overnight.

Emergency services were called to home on Elke Way, Toongabbie, following reports of a stabbing at about 10pm on Monday.

Police discovered a man at the scene had suffered a stab wound to the chest.

Paramedics treated the 42-year-old man at the scene before he was rushed to Westmead Hospital.

He currently remains in a serious condition.

Police were informed that the injured man was allegedly stabbed by a woman, known to him, following a verbal altercation.
