The bleak conditions of Erin Patterson's life in prison have been revealed, as the focus shifts to whether the triple-murderer will appeal her sentence.

Patterson on Monday was ordered to life in jail with a non-parole period of 33 years for murdering three relatives of her estranged husband by serving them a lethal mushroom lunch.

During the sentencing hearing, which was broadcast live in a state-first for the Victorian Supreme Court, Patterson's grim life in prison was highlighted by Justice Christopher Beale.

The mother-of-two has been behind bars for almost two years at Dame Phyllis Frost Prison, a maximum security women's jail in Melbourne's western suburbs.
