CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A Cedar Rapids restaurant is facing an uncertain future after street construction pushed business to a breaking point.
Mi Lindo Vallarta, a family-run Mexican restaurant on 5th Ave. SE has struggled to stay afloat due to limited parking and slow traffic.
“When the construction started, we got behind on bills, on rent - everything,” said co-owner Sandra Lopez.
Last week, regular customers David and Molly Hernandez shared the restaurant’s story on the company’s Facebook page - Sunstone Exteriors. The post sparked an outpouring of support.
On Saturday, business picked up. Customers left generous tips and handwritten notes on receipts.
Lopez says she plans to start offering specials, staying open on DoorDash, and doing everything she can to stay afloat.
