A man performing survey work on a Scott County road died after being struck by an SUV driver on Monday morning.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office says it received a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Texas Avenue and 230th Street East in New Market Township at 11:50 a.m.

They learned a Chevy Equinox, driven by a 58-year-old Lonsdale man, was heading north on Texas Avenue when he struck the worker, a 44-year-old man from Minneapolis.

While police say several passers-by stopped to render aid to the victim until paramedics could arrive, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chevy driver was not injured. Police say that "at this time, it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash."
