The Liberal Party has splintered over Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s comments about Indian migrants, with senior figures coming out both for and against the outspoken senator.
The crisis began when Ms Price suggested that there were “concerns” about Indian Australian migrants and their voting patterns.
She later described the comments as a “mistake” but has refused to apologise, despite pressure from colleagues and calls from Indian community leaders.
The issue escalated when Ms Price accused her colleague Liberal MP Alex Hawke of berating her staff and ordering her to apologise.
Mr Hawke denied the claims , insisting his conversation with Ms Price’s office was brief and professional.
Amid the fallout, Liberal Party politicians have openly lined up behind either Mr Hawke or Ms Price.
