Matcha has made its way from ancient Japan to the menus of every trendy cafe in America, and it's created a shortage - even in Delaware.

"We have seen the popularity of matcha grow over the years and currently it is the most popular coffee alternative option," said Jillian Bruce-Willis, president of Brew HaHa! and Brandywine Coffee Roasters. "We have experienced shortages already and tea importers are running through their supplies quickly when it is back in stock."

Matcha is a shade-grown, finely-ground, green Japanese tea. Its popularity has expanded across continents in recent years and the market is expected to continue to grow. Chalait is one of numerous matcha cafes and stores now open in New York City.
