A city committee has passed a motion requesting race-based data on evictions in social housing, a move advocates say could help protect vulnerable tenants from homelessness.
On Wednesday, the Confronting Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee (CABRAC) approved a motion calling on Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) to collect and publicize disaggregated race-based data on evictions, arrears and tenant relocations.
The issue was highlighted in an Ombudsman Toronto report released earlier this year that found weaknesses in tenant protections, said Walied Khogali Ali, committee member and co-chair of the Regent Park Neighbourhood Association.
