Now, Niagara’s David (DJ) Roy wants to see heated competitions of … storytelling?

It goes down Wednesday at Mahtay Café in St. Catharines for “What’s a Story,” in which people take turns swapping tales.

At the end of the night, the audience will cast ballots for the winner.

It’s much like the StorySlam event that originated in New York City in 2001, for which competitors have five minutes to tell a story — no notes allowed — based on a theme for the event.

For Wednesday’s event, Roy says speakers have three to seven minutes to tell their tale. It can be funny, personal, fictional, scary, whatever. If the audience is engaged enough, it wins.

At the end of the night, the winner gets a T-shirt from 4680Q (it is presenting the event)
