Welland’s newly approved ward boundaries are what’s best for the city, says John Chiocchio.

“In my 10 years (on city council), I don’t know how many times we tried to change the composition of the wards,” said the Ward 3 councillor. “We went ahead and asked for this, and we have to make a change for what’s best. Whatever happens with the province, we’ll let it be.”

Chiocchio made the comment following a presentation from StrategyCorp during last week’s council meeting that said Welland’s six ward boundaries as they are now no longer reflect the city’s population growth.

He said the company worked hard on the review, despite concerns raised by elected officials the provincial government could change the composition of Niagara and its municipalities.
