Five people were injured — two of them critically — in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Wainfleet.

Wainfleet Fire and Emergency Services, Niagara Emergency Medical Services and Niagara Regional Police responded to the collision on Forks Road, between Mill Race and Gents roads, just before 4:30 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to find a grey Dodge truck in a field on the south side of the road, a black Dodge pickup in a ditch on the north side and a white Chevrolet truck stopped in the westbound lane.

The crash occurred just west of a bridge over a branch of the Welland River. Police closed Forks Road between Mill Race and Gents while the scene was investigated.
