Brock University had all the horses — and horsepower to spare — at the Ruckin’ Rodeo home openers for the men’s and women’s rugby teams on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

The Brock women rebounded from a 36-21 road loss to the Guelph Gryphons in the season opener by blanking the Trent Excalibur 114-0.

Renee Engel led the Badgers in scoring with 24 points off 12 conversions, on an afternoon that saw Sierra Costello, Robyn Ellis, Marissa Freeman, Taylor Pate, Lauren Smith, and Sierra Thompson each score the first tries of their Ontario University Athletics career.

Thompson scored four tries, as did Brooke Rempel. Bekah Cyr, Natasha Toonders, and Mia Vandenhoek also found their way into the end zone for the hosts in the convincing win.
