VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A house fire displaced four people Monday night in the 3300 block of Weeping Willow Lane, according to the Virginia Beach Fire Department.
The fire happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from a three-story townhouse. Firefighters deployed hoses and brought the fire under control shortly before 9:30 p.m.
Officials said the family’s dog could not be revived despite several attempts by crews. No one else was injured.
Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen and was accidental, caused by an overloaded extension cord. Fire officials said the family was alerted by a smoke alarm that had been installed by the department.
