COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County Police on Monday announced a break in a more than 40-year-old cold case, saying they'd identified a homicide victim found near the Chattahoochee River in 1984.

According to a CCPD release, neither the victim nor the cause of death could be determined at the time the body was found. They now say that "advanced genetic genealogy" tests done with Othram Labs was able to identify the victim as Veronica Jane Miller of Mableton.

Miller, according to the release, was 20 years old at the time of her death.

The break in the case came when the genealogy testing led to a possible half-sister, according to the release. Now Miller's death has been ruled a homicide, and her family has been notified of the case update.
