(North Sioux City, SD) — McCook Lake is one step closer to being ready for recreation again after a one-million-dollar cleanup project wraps up to end the summer. Crews pulled out more than 20-thousand cubic yards of debris and sediment, including everything from cars to a riding lawn mower, after last year’s flooding filled the lake with junk. The Game, Fish and Parks Department says the lake could be restored to recreational levels next year after water is pumped back in from the Missouri River and North Sioux City opens its public access.
