A man died at a hospital Monday following a pair of officer-involved shootings near 3500 West Washington Street, Phoenix police said.
Officers assigned to South Mountain Precinct responded about 12:10 p.m. Sept. 8 to an armed robbery near 35 th Avenue and Fillmore Street where they were told a man had pointed a handgun at a man and took his cell phone, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
A description of the suspect’s vehicle was provided, and officers near 35th Avenue and Washington Street saw it pull into a vacant field where it stopped.
“Officers requested additional units to pinch the vehicle in. While this occurred, officers saw the man point a handgun at them, and this is when the officer-involved shooting occurred,” the release stated.
The man attempted to drive
