WILKES COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A deputy sheriff was severely injured in a head-on crash in Western North Carolina this past weekend.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7 on Highway 115 near Hunting Creek Road in Wilkes County.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the wreck started when a Ford F-150 was heading north on Highway 115 and sideswiped a southbound Ford-F-250 towing a boat. After the two trucks collided, the F-150 crashed into a Wilkes County deputy head-on.
State troopers said the driver of the F-150, 47-year-old Darrell Dean Kilby, was impaired at the time of the crash. They also said careless and reckless driving contributed to the wreck.
Kilby and the deputy both sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and were taken to hospitals. The dri
