CENTER TOWNSHIP — A Porter County police officer said he gave up a pursuit after reaching a speed of 120 mph and still failing to catch up to a gray Mercedes heading east on U.S. 30.
A short time later a Valparaiso police officer reportedly found the vehicle in question crashed into a light pole and took the driver, Aidan Morley, 20, of Valparaiso, into custody.
Morley reportedly told police he had been on his way to pick up a friend from a local bar and did not see the officer's emergency lights behind him.
He has been charged with reckless driving causing property damage, records show.
The vehicle was spotted by the officer shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday heading east on U.S. 30 in the area of County Road 250 West, according to the police report.
