SPENCER COUNTY, Ind. (WEVV) — A Tell City man has been sentenced to prison for attempted armed robbery and theft in Spencer County.

Jacob L. Maxey, 19, was sentenced to nine years for those charges, according to the Spencer County Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation began in late March when a bullet hole was found at the Rockport High Rise Apartments. Authorities identified Maxey from surveillance footage and witness statements after he attempted an armed robbery on March 26, 2025.

During the incident, Maxey tried to steal a firearm by pointing a gun at the victim's face. After the victim fled, Maxey fired multiple shots. The firearm Maxey used was confirmed stolen days before the robbery.
