Having covered the crime/court beat for nearly 26 years, there are several criminal cases that are permanently etched onto my mind.

The same goes for natural disasters as I vividly recall the March 1993 blizzard, the blizzard and flooding in January 1996 (I was a college senior at the time), the tornado outbreak in Wyoming County in May 1997, the Bear Creek Township flood of May 2000, the flooding and evacuation in June 2006, the Mountain Top tornado in December 2006, and notably the September 2011 flood.

Fourteen years ago today, Sept. 9, 2011, the Susquehanna River hit a record crest of 42.66 feet causing flooding in low-lying areas of West Pittston, Plainsville in Plains Township, West Nanticoke in Plymouth Township and Shickshinny.
