A retired Auburn University professor was killed and her body was found Saturday in Kiesel Park, according to Auburn police, who have arrested and charged their suspect.

Julie Gard Schnuelle was 59. Police say her body was found in a wooded area of the park Saturday. APD then on Sunday arrested Harold Rashad Dabney III, of Montgomery, and charged him with two counts of capital murder in relation to Schnuelle's death.

Schnuelle was an Auburn University veterinary professor emerita, having retired in 2021 as a professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

"Auburn sends our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Dr. Gard Schnuelle during this unimaginably difficult time," the university said in a statement.

Dabney is being held in Lee County Jail without bond.
