MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) - A portion of Avenue of the Cities was shut down Monday night after police believed a man in a squad car had a weapon.

According to East Moline police, at 10:51 p.m. an officer was taking a man to the Rock Island County Jail.

Police said the man made movements and comments that made the officer believe he had a weapon.

Out of an abundance of caution, officials said traffic was diverted from the 3400 block of Avenue of the Cities in Moline while officers made sure the man had no weapon.

Around 11:50 p.m., a KWQC crew could hear a large explosion in or near a police squad car.

According to East Moline police, the explosion sound was a distraction device that was used before removing the man from the police car.
