CHARLOTTE, N.C. — North Carolina Congressman Tim Moore is among lawmakers calling for the removal of Magistrate Judge Teresa Stokes in the wake of the deadly stabbing on Charlotte's light rail.
Moore said Stokes released Decarlos Brown, who now faces first-degree murder charges in the Aug. 22 killing of Iryna Zarutska.
Zarutska, 23, was stabbed to death on the LYNX Blue Line by a stranger who attacked her without provocation.
Now, 10 members of Congress have signed a letter asking Chief District Court Judge Roy Wiggins to remove Stokes from office "for willful and persistent failure to perform the duties of the office or conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice that brings the judicial office into disrepute."
