WASHINGTON — Reaction to a deadly stabbing on the LYNX Blue Line in Charlotte continues to pour in, with national political leaders now offering commentary on the death of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee.
During a House GOP press briefing on Tuesday morning, House Speaker Mike Johnson briefly addressed the deadly incident, saying it had been brought up to him by Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer. Johnson said Zarutska was "brutally murdered in cold blood" as part of his remarks.
"She was on the way home from her job at a pizzeria where she worked. She was stabbed repeatedly by a career criminal with a rap sheet a mile long," Johnson said. "It's infuriating. It's heartbreaking."
