GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids has received state funding to help with ongoing efforts to protect families from lead exposure.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) awarded a $720,000 community grant to the city of Grand Rapids to identify and abate lead paint and water hazards in homes occupied by lead-poisoned children.

The Grand Rapids City Commission will formally accept the state grant at its 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 meeting.

The lead program is available to households in Grand Rapids with Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)-enrolled children ages 6 and younger, who have a high elevated blood lead level. The Kent County Health Department will identify eligible participants and conduct the required outreach.
