PHOENIX (AZFamily) — For many kids, learning to read can lead to judgmental scenarios among their peers at school.
That’s why students at Barry Goldwater High School got to take part in a judgment-free reading activity. They were able to practice by reading to therapy dogs!
The students read to the dogs in 15-minute increments for eight weeks in order to improve reading and comprehension.
All participating students are either in need of reading support or English Language Learners.
The district says the program has led to improved academic performance and test scores in previous years.
