EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -The Union of Tenure System Faculty (UTSF) won recognition from Michigan State University (MSU) on Monday, following years of organizing and legal battles.
A recognition agreement was signed by both parties after a neutral third party verified that a clear majority of eligible faculty had submitted authorization cards in support of union representation.
This verification process was the result of negotiations between UTSF and the MSU administration.
The nearly 2,000 tenure-system faculty at MSU launched their unionization campaign after experiencing firsthand the vulnerability of non-unionized workers, particularly when salaries and retirement benefits were cut during the COVID-19 pandemic.
